Echo Mountain White City Ruins

Elevation: 3207′

Echo Mountain is the site of a former resort known as the “White City.” Currently, only the ruins remain of the Hotel and associated structures, Incline Railroad, and Electric Railroad leading to the old Tavern (now Mt. Lowe Campground) located near Inspiration Point.

  2. Upper Sunset Ridge, Lower Mt. Lowe Railway, Echo Mountain, and Lower Sam Merrill to Cobb Estate shuttle hike: 6.2 miles, 1362′ gain, 1656′ loss. First Hike: 12-16-2012.
  3. Cobb Estate to Echo Mountain, Cape of Good Hope: 7 miles, 1656′ gain and loss. First Hike: 1-8-2011.
  4. Millard Canyon, Sunset Ridge, Lower Mt. Lowe Railway, Echo Mountain and Lower Sam Merrill to Cobb Estate shuttle hike: 7 miles, 1782′ gain, 1656′ loss. First Hike: 4-1-2012.
  5. Millard Canyon, Sunset Ridge, Lower Mt. Lowe Railway to Echo Mountain: 8.8 miles, 2032′ gain and loss. First Hike: 3-22-12.
  6. Eaton Saddle to Mt. Lowe to Echo Mountain to Inspiration Point Loop: 11.2 miles, 2,730′ of gain and loss. First Hike: 2-9-2017.
  7. Cobb Estate: Lower Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mountain; Castle Canyon to Inspiration Point; East Mt. Lowe Trail to Mt. Markham Trail to Mt. Markham; down to Upper East Mt. Lowe Trail to Mt. Lowe; Upper Sam Merrill down to Mt. Lowe Road up to Inspiration Point; Sam Merrill Trails down to the Cobb Estate: 14.8 miles, 3259′ gain and loss. First Hike: 3-28-12.
  8. Cobb Estate Trailhead: Lower Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mountain; Castle Canyon Trail to Inspiration Point; OM&M Railway Trail to Muir Peak Trail up to Muir Peak; back to Inspiration Point, East Mt. Lowe Trail to Mt. Lowe; Sam Merrill Trails back to Cobb Estate: 14.8 miles, 4070′ gain and loss. First Hike: 2-25-13.
