Upper Sunset Ridge Trail from the gate to Muir Peak

Trail: Upper Sunset Ridge to Muir Peak via the Upper and Lower Mt. Lowe Railway Trails, Echo Mountain, Castle Canyon, Inspiration Point and Mt. Lowe Campground.

Stats: 12.9 miles, 2,760′ gain and loss.

Trail Segments: Take the Upper Sunset Ridge Trail from the gate up to the Cape of Good Hope. From the Cape of Good Hope, go down the road a short distance to the JCT with the Lower Mt. Lowe Railway Trail and take that down toward Echo Mountain. At the JCT with the Lower Sam Merrill Trail, continue straight to the White City Ruins at Echo Mountain. From Echo Mountain, take the Castle Canyon Trail to Inspiration Point. From Inspiration Point, follow the One Man & Mule Railway Trail east to the Muir Peak Trail and take that to the Summit. Return to Inspiration Point and follow Mt. Lowe Road down the Lowe Saddle. Five trails meet at Lowe Saddle, take Trailhead 2 (The Upper Mt. Lowe Railway Trail) down to Mt. Lowe Campground and then continue down the Upper Mt. Lowe Railway Trail to the Cape of Good Hope and return to the parking lot via the Upper Sunset Ridge Trail.
