Parking: In the neighborhood.

The trailhead is not directly next to parking and there are a few different trails leading from the Cobb Estate.  This trailhead is for the Sam Merrill Trail.  First, you walk around the gate to the Cobb Estate

Then you walk along the paved road and make a right at the dirt path shown below.

  2. Cobb Estate to Echo Mountain, Lower Mt. Lowe Railroad, and Upper Sunset Ridge shuttle hike: 6.2 miles, 1656′ gain, 1362′ loss
  3. Cobb Estate to Echo Mountain, Cape of Good Hope: 7 miles, 1656′ of gain and loss.
  4. Cobb Estate to Echo Mountain, Lower Mt. Lowe Railroad, Sunset Ridge, and Millard Canyon shuttle hike: 7 miles, 1656′ gain, 1782′ loss
  5. Cobb Estate to Echo Mountain to Inspiration Point via Castle Canyon: 9.2 miles, 2709′ of gain and loss
  6. Sam Merrill Trail to Inspiration Point: 11.2 miles, 2709′ of gain and loss.
  7. Muir Peak from Cobb Estate: 11.6 miles, 2947′ of gain and loss.
  8. Sam Merrill Trail, Castle Canyon Trail, East Mt. Lowe Trails to Mt. Lowe: 12.8 miles, 3862′ of gain and loss.
  9. Sam Merrill Trail to Mt. Lowe: 13.8 miles, 3802′ of gain and loss.
  10. Mt. Lowe Railway Trails to Mt. Lowe: 15.5 miles, 3802′ of gain and loss.
